| Background: |
As the Government's strategic agency for film, the UK Film Council works to build a competitive industry; to give audiences greater choice; to encourage learning about, and involvement in, film; and to promote UK film globally. My role involved working with 18 departments to initiate and deliver a range of marketing strategies and bespoke events. |
Responsibilities
Developing marketing strategies and campaigns:
- Researching, writing and implementing international marketing and event strategies in line with UK Film Council communication objectives, policies and budgets
Print and publications management:
- Managing design, production, writing, editing and distribution of strategic reports, annual review, report and accounts, statistical yearbook etc
- Contracting freelance writers/editors for publications support and speech writing
Events management:
- Managing international and UK-based events from concept to completion
- Devising event programmes, recruiting speakers, raising sponsorship, working with partners and representing their interests, and managing all event logistics
Examples:
- 'Cultural Capital conference', looking at the role of culture in public service broadcasting and working with NESTA, MLAC, Arts Council England and British Film Institute
- First Light Film Awards, celebrating children's talent in filmmaking
- 'Mumbai Writers' Workshops', taking UK delegation to India to work with Indian writers, producers and directors
Communications Management:
- Liaising with international press and promoting positive stories
- Writing internal communications strategy
- Working with 18 departments and implementing methods to improve the flow of information
Brand management:
- Creating and implementing new brands (i.e. visual identities for the UK Film Council and UK film industry - 'UK Film', launched at the Cannes Film Festival)
Raising sponsorship:
- Designing bespoke corporate sponsorship packages, getting sponsors on board, meeting income targets and providing excellent customer care to sponsors
Website management:
- Managing development of new sections, liaising with departments for content, copywriting and maintaining site through bespoke content management system
Budget management:
- Managing project budgets, allocating spend, negotiating competitive prices and meeting budget targets
